Tips for Hosting a Stress-Free Housewarming Party
Congratulations on your new home! Whether it’s your first property, first rented home after moving out of your parent’s place, a new home in a new location or a freshly renovated property, you have every reason to celebrate. It’s exciting to invite your family and friends to your new home and show them around with a housewarming party. But if you’re not well prepared, a big party that is teeming with guests can be quite stressful. Here, let us help you take the stress out of the milestone event so you can enjoy as much as your guests.
Get Your Home in Order
While it’s tempting to throw a party as soon as you step in, inviting an army of guests before you get your home in order may not be a good idea. Wait to settle in; take your time to unpack; arrange your furniture until your home appears inviting enough. It may take weeks or even a few months but will be well worth it. A housewarming party is nicer when your home makes a nice impression and your guests won’t trip over boxes strewn all over the house. You will be a lot more organized if your new home is organized, making party planning less stressful.
Email Invitations
Save paper by emailing your invitations instead. Make sure you add an RSVP section for the final headcount. Emailing is quick, convenient, personalized and saves you considerable time and money looking for expensive cards. You can also create a group invitation for selected guests on Messenger so your guests are aware of the others attending. The fun doubles when you know the people at a party or are prepared to make new friends. Don’t forget to mention the time and duration of the party, dress code and whether it includes food or not. You don’t want your guests to look for a full dinner when you arranged only hors d’oeuvres with cocktails. Invite your neighbours if you like. It’s a great way to feel at home in your new neighbourhood quicker and learn about the conveniences there.
Theme Party
How about a party theme to make it more exciting? Make it easy for everyone to follow the theme. It could be a colour code where everyone dresses up in the same colours such as a fall colour theme to celebrate the mood of the season. How about a retro party or even a rockstar theme where everyone dresses up as their favourite rockstar? Add little touches around the house to reflect the theme, without going overboard. Select rock music for the rockstar theme for instance.
Simple Food
The best way to enjoy any party is by keeping the food simple. Bite-sized snacks, pre-cut fruits, cheese and cookie platters with beverages are a good idea. Don’t be shy to order pizzas. The idea is to celebrate without stressing yourself out over little details. Your guests enjoy more if you join them in the fun, not if you are stressed out in the kitchen. Keep paper plates, glasses, plenty of tissue boxes and disposable cutlery. Place big garbage bags in the kitchen and yard to reduce the stress of washing up. Don’t forget to send thank you emails or drop a note on Messenger after the party is over.
